Lucas’ expertise focuses on sanctions and international trade. He previously practiced as a lawyer in Canada, with a focus on corporate and commercial law. His transactional and business law background allows him to work with the firm’s clients in identifying effective and efficient business-oriented legal solutions.
Before joining BenninkAmar, Lucas worked at a national Canadian law firm and a boutique law firm in a solicitor-focused practice. Lucas’ clients ranged from entrepreneurs to multi-national corporations handling an array of business and legal issues. In these settings, Lucas advised on numerous share and asset agreements, as well as complex trade and regulatory matters. This allowed him to develop a keen understanding of his clients’ businesses and how their goals fit into the relevant legal framework.
Lucas obtained a Bachelor of Criminal Justice & Public Policy (honours) at the University of Guelph before attending the University of Ottawa to complete his Juris Doctor. During his time in Ottawa, Lucas completed internships at the Ministry of the Attorney General and the Ottawa Community Legal Clinic. He also participated in several mooting competitions, which included a third-place finish at the Canadian National Negotiation Competition.
He most recently completed a Master of Law in International Trade and Investment Law at the University of Amsterdam, where he was also engaged in the Amsterdam International Law Clinic.
Lucas joined BenninkAmar Advocaten in March 2022.
