EU implements new UN North Korea sanctions

On 27 February 2017, the European Union (“EU”) has implemented the new sanctions that the UN Security Council imposed on North Korea in November 2016. The new measures include:

• A further limitation on the import of coal from North Korea;
• An import ban on statues and several metals from North Korea; and
• An export ban on new helicopters and vessels to North Korea.

The new measures also tighten the existing sanctions regime on North Korea.
