Dentsply Sirona Inc. to pay USD1,220,400 for violating US Iran sanctions regime

On 6 December 2017, Dentsply Sirona Inc. (“Dentsply“), a US company specialising in dental solutions, agreed to pay the Office of Foreign Assets Control (“OFAC“) USD1,220,400 in order to settle its potential liability for apparent violations of the United States (“US“) Iran sanctions regime. OFAC determined, that between November 2009 and July 2012, Dentsply committed 37 violations of the Iranian Transactions and Sanctions Regulations. According to OFAC, during this period indirect subsidiaries of Dentsply had exported 37 shipments of dental equipment and supplies from the US, to distributors in third-countries, with knowledge or reason to know that the goods were ultimately destined for Iran.

According to OFAC, Dentsply did not voluntarily disclose the matter and that the violations had constituted a non-egregious case.

The official OFAC enforcement notice can be found here.
